On Saint Martin, two million tourists disembarked in 2014. Many of them just visit for a couple of hours to stay in designated areas for shopping, eating and beach activities. The islands most famous attraction is Maho Beach, where tourists get very close to arriving airplanes and put up with painful sand peelings whenever one takes off. That daily routine drastically changed in September 2017, when hurricane Irma left the island destroyed and put most tourism to a halt.
